Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (98)

Ten Things of Thankful

Another exciting week is over. Friday was a public holiday, and we spent it with my parents; the actual plan was to see the May Day parade in their town and then head to the fair, but with the rain we rather stayed in and relaxed. Today was the more exciting, being stranded in town after one of the tires on my car exploding and the repair shop I schlepped myself to shutting down. I'm definitely up for a relaxing Sunday tomorrow!

This last week, I was especially thankful for:

1. Meeting a wonderful colleague from Saudia Arabia and learning so much more about her life, which is totally different from mine but in some areas still the same.

2. Spontaneous late-afternoon coffee get-togethers with the neighbors.

3. Lily being absolutely supportive, taking a shower all by herself and getting ready for bed while I put Calvin down for the night.

4. A collection of home-made jams, gifted to us by our new neighbor.

5. Weekday breakfast with all three kids on all 4 school days this week!

6. Hubby for organizing our rescue when I stranded in Erlangen with an exploded tire.

7. Our wonderful friend who took Richard and a spare tire a ride to Erlangen.

8. Again Richard for interrupting his school work and playing with Calvin while I retreated to nurse my migraine.

9. Chocolate easter bunnies being safely turned into delicious oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Our candy bowl is considerably smaller now, and a good part of the cookies distributed in the neighborhood.

10. The kids being supportive when I really needed them to, Like during bath time for 3 while hubby was out for a rehearsal, or when I was stranded with a blown-up tire.  The three may be unruly at times, but whenever I absolutely need them to, they are all picture-perfect!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. A flat tire? Ugh. Looks like you had a very nice neighbor to help. That is something to be very thankful about. Sounds like life was good this week in your world.

    1. It was a very good week, despite the tire blow-up. Poor Violet was very scared and cried as we hobbled along. But everything went well, we're home with our car, and we'll order a replacement right on Monday!

    1. She sure is a wonderful person. I wished I'd had more time to spend with her than just an hour for lunch..

  3. Re-purposing the Easter bunnies to cookies to share was brilliant!

    1. I do this twice a year, with the easter bunnies and the chocolate santas. There's just way, way too much chocolate for the kids to eat as is, so we make this giant batch of cookies that usually eats up all the chocolate, or at least enough of it :-)

  4. oh man, tire explosion. I had a toyota that had a bent frame which I technically shouldnt have been driving but couldnt afford another car. I blew a tire about every six to eight weeks for a year... I can change a tire like a pit crew!

    1. Yes, it was quite a situation. I was sweating and shaking, trying to stay cool for the kids, and then Violet started crying because she was scared. Glad that we all got home well, and very thankful to have a friend who not only helped in our rescue but also works at our repair shop, so she will order the replacements right on Monday and hook us up with a free rental car if they have one available.

  5. Oh, it sounds like several people came through for you in a pinch this week. An exploded tire, oh my! I hope you got to recuperate over the weekend.

  6. Whoa! Were you going very fast when your tire blew? How scary! Poor Violet!
Look at what a big girl Lily is, taking her own shower and getting herself ready for bed so you could take care of Calvin!
We NEVER had leftover Easter candy at our house! Maybe because the bunny knew exactly what they liked, unlike at Halloween when you get whatever folks are handing out? What a great idea to chop those bunnies up and use them in cookies!
We only have three more weeks of preschool, but I'm still envious that you had a day off last week! Isn't that silly?

  7. yeah, there is something so very wrong yet not overly threatening about driving slowly along on a flat tire, like suddenly the laws of physics were suspended! ('round tire = forward motion, of course'). then there's that thing, 'the car runs, I'm here sitting in it/standing next to it and I can't go anywhere!
good that i worked out and the week was a net good

  8. An exploding tire?!?! yikes. Glad your husband was home to be able to help you out.

I smiled when you mentioned your daughter showering by herself. My youngest is showering as I read and comment to your post. I was thinking, right before reading, that it is nice to finally have all the kids able to shower without help.
