Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (101)

Ten Things of Thankful

Some may have probably noticed, I've not writing much lately. I've not been feeling well those past weeks, I've been tired, exhausted, and mostly brain-dead. I know that a full night sleep is going to happen again.. Sometime in the future, within the next year or so..  And my brain will return eventually. In the meantime, please bear with me...

 This week's ten thankfuls:

1. Enough functioning brain left to be thankful and remember the things I've been thankful for during the last week!

2. My best friend, who gracefully ignored that I absolutely forgot her birthday earlier this month, and with whom I spend a fun afternoon today.

3. Loudly singing songs in the car with the girls.

4. This!

5. Kind people who signed up to sponsor Lily in her charity race.  And Lily for signing up to participate at the race  :-)

6. Dark chocolate with raspberry and blackberry crisps.

7. My emerging green thumb. The strawberries are carrying fruits, the tomato plant is blooming, and my orchid is growing 5!!!! blossoms!

8. Getting to watch my my sweet baby boy sleep peacefully in my arm. Seeing him frown, move his little mouth in his dreams, smile, and relax his little face as he slipped back into deep sleep. Wonderful, wonderful moments!

9. Watching Violet grow so much in confidence. She feels so confident in the water during swim class and has now learned to ride her bike, mostly practiced by herself. She's so proud pedalling along the street  :-)

10. Asparagus season continuing  :-)

I hope you all had a wonderful week. What are you thankful for?

  1. Asparagus and scrambled eggs are one of my favorite fast suppers. My tomato plant has a baby tomato on it - I can hardly wait for real (non-hydroponic) tomatoes. I have not attempted strawberries yet, but I just don't know if I can squeeze out another bed with enough hours of sunlight to do strawberries. Happy gardening!

    1. Thanks so much, Vanessa! I'm a first-time gardener and just hope for the best :-) My red currant plant seems to have contracted something, the leaves are changing, but I hope I don't have to tear the entire plant out. I find strawberries quite easy to grow, you can even put them in a pot, as long as they only get enough sun. Here in Germany, they started to sell hanging strawberry plants, for apartment living :-) Happy gardening to you as well, Vanessa!

  2. I admire women who find any time at all to write blog posts while raising young children. You will sleep again eventually. Hang in there!

  3. You will sleep again, but my word, it is difficult to think it will ever happen when in the middle of the exhausting days of no sleep. That sweet face is worth the temporary brain loss. :)

Glad to hear your garden is doing well. I get ridiculously excited when our plants bear fruit (or veggies).

We have had 5 meals with asparagus from our garden this year. It is soooo good!

    1. You grow your own asparagus?? You rock, lady!! We don't have anything to harvest yet, having only planted a few weeks ago, and Calvin having gotten the best of the gooseberry shrub before I could plant it, but I think by July, we'll be having the first strawberries.

I don't know why, I've had little kids before and I've worked way more hours doing so, but I don't think I've ever been that exhausted. It may be still the stress from building the house, which I mostly managed, the stressful time at work when I was pregnant, etc., I don't know.. I definitely know it's a huge different between being a new mom at 24 and at 30 :-)

I hope you have a wonderful week, Christine!

  4. "Asparagus and scrambled eggs"…now, I know this is open ended in terms of what we can write… but Asparaguseses…. and eggs?!?!
lol (actually I like scrambled eggs* but asparagus not so much)

    excellent photo of Calvin

    * for whatever reason, the only way that I would eat scrambled eggs (at age 5 through 9) was with grape jelly… yeah, I know! I suspect that I was simply playing the 'make-the-food-look-so-gross, the parental-unit-will-throw-it-out-and-you-won't-have-to-eat-it gambit)

    1. Scambled eggs and grape jelly sounds positively disgusting :-) I prefer my scrambled eggs with creamed spinach and pan-fried potato slices, yum! Asparagus tastes very delicious as a lasagne or with spinach linguine and a cream sauce.. Am I turning into a foodie here??

So, did you have to eat your eggs and jelly? Back when Lily was a baby and I cooked all the food for her, I made her some pumpkin at some point, don't remember which type. It turned out a brown mush that looked like a cup of diarrhea. I wanted to throw it out, but she devoured the entire thing. yikes!

      Enjoy your week, Clark!

  7. Help! My orchid is dropping flowers with gleeful abandon. My sister suggested I don't water it too often and I haven't been. Still it is woefully unwell. Any suggestions?

    1. Ignore it :-) My mom (who is an orchid goddess) told me to water it once a week, pour a ton of water in it in the morning and then drain the water in the late afternoon. Worked for me for a while but then they still shed their blooms. Now I have them stand in my bathroom (warm and humid!) and water them maybe once a week, sometimes only every second or third week, depending on when I remember :-) But as far as I know, orchids do shed every once in a while, but the blooms will return after a few months; the plant is healthy as long as the leaves look healthy. Good luck with your orchid, Kelly!!

    1. Thanks so much, Janine!! I feel as if slowly but steadily, the veil is starting to lift a little, if we've not just had a night of horrible teething.. Poor boy!
