Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (105)

Ten Things of Thankful

I'm making a pledge right here and there: No matter how often Violet will start talking about one given topic, I'll never EVER accuse her of obsessing any more after being subjected to two of my co-workers (dubbed B4WS) obsessing about roast chicken for three hours without a break. I am glad that this was on a Wednesday (aka: my Friday), because I don't think I could have stomached the two of them two more days.  But after all, I have to say that I am very thankful for this little piece of reality check.

More Thankfuls for this week:

1. Having a corded mouse at work. Believe me, had I had a cord-less mouse, I so would have thrown it into the direction of B4WS, which would have resulted in a remark in my personnel file at best and getting fired at worst. No matter which one, not something I need right now.. or ever.

2. Wonderful colleagues who gladly serve as an outlet for my frustration and anger. And vice versa.

3. Fun games of Godzilla with Calvin. I build little towers of blocks and Godzilla Baby is smashing them in. Could play that game for hours.

4. Meeting with my friend and her kids; her son is just 20 days younger than Calvin and absolutely adorable as well. It was so much fun watching the two of them engage, climb over each other, pat faces, hands, and heads, and giving out the occasional protesting screech. Watching little kids interact is just so much fun!

5. Calvin being simply the most adorable little lad anyone can imagine. When I left for work in Wednesday, he crawled outside into the hallway as I was putting on my shoes and started waving me good-bye. Could have swept him up and cuddled the heck out of him had I not been late already.

6. A shopping date with Lily. She's been put on the backburner in favor of her siblings for quite a while, and being who she is, she's not someone who pushes herself into first row. I knew she felt neglected as she was acting out for a while, so finally we managed to do something just the two of us. Lily wanted to spend some of her pocket money and found a Barbie doll she liked; I found a nice top for the wedding we're attending next week. We stopped at a café, went to the library and picked up produce at the local farmer's market. Just the best way spending quality time with my oldest!

7. Watching Violet play. She's so much more playful than Lily, and often times she doesn't even need anyone else to play with. Today, she was cooking up a nice mud soup, pretending to host a cooking show. Just beyond adorable!

8. Breakfast with all three of the kiddos.

9. Lily asking me to volunteer in her school. Yay, she's not embarrassed of me and double-yay for actually having the time to volunteer.

10. Rain, plenty of rain. No need to water the lawn and plants, and the nights are cooler, too, which means more sleep. I do hope for a little nicer weather next week though!

What are you thankful for this week?

  2. Individual dates with a child are so important. Sounds like yours was wonderful!

    1. It was a great date, and yes, I need to focus more on that. We got to spend a little more time together today, even though it was only a doctor's appointment :-)

I hope you have a great week, Kristi!

  3. Oh I feel your pain on the chicken conversation! I used to work in an office with just that type of woman. I would sit there grinding my teeth with more work than I could shake a stick at while she wandered around talking. I truly wanted to hurt her at times or at least holler STFU! There are actually TV shows I used to love that I stopped watching after hearing her 8 hour monologues on each episode.

    1. At least, those ladies haven't managed to spoil stuff for me yet. I'm so sorry you had to deal with one of these office ladies as well, Vanessa! At some point, I was in a phone conference, I actually had tu excuse myself, cover the phone and yell to STFU, because I could barely understand a word the other people on the phone were saying. Absolutely rude and unnecessary! If you refuse to work, at least don't keep the others from doing theirs.

      Have a great week, Vanessa!

    1. Yes, I'm thankful for the rain since I don't have to water the lawn and the plants. But the kids are just getting stir-crazy being stuck inside. It's supposed to be really nice again by Thursday :-)

Have a wonderful week, dear Jen!

  5. Our daughter got home from her mission last night, and the parents were chatting at the airport. One of them asked if I would be going with the teens one year, and my daughter, who wasn't even in the conversation, yelled, "she's not allowed to go!" Yeah. I've got a couple of kids who are embarrassed by me. :) I'm glad lily wants you to help out.
Those one-on-one dates are important. Good for you both to have a dat together.

    1. Umpf.. Nice compliment, dear Buttercup :-) Yes, Lily absolutely loved the one-on-one time, and I promised her to take her out at least once a month from now on.

      Have a wonderful week, Christine!

  6. It's important to make each of your children feel special and have one-on-one time with each of them. Sounds like you are doing a great job, shopping, building blocks and being an audience for a mud pie cooking show. So how do you make your chicken? lol

    1. I don't make any chicken.. Ok, sometimes for hubby, and then I usually just stick it in the oven drizzled with some olive oil and on a bed of root vegetables and mushrooms. Besides, I was only the audience of a conversation I've never asked for and would have escaped as I could have.. Absolutely nothing worth taking out of this conversation, believe me! :-)

Hope you have a wonderful week, Val!

  7. …ya gotta tell us! Was it a chicken food topic or chicken recipe topic (I'm a visual from the movie Forrest Gump and his body in the army listing the different uses for shrimp in food).
It is probably best that you do not hurl small electronic devices at co-workers. lol

    1. Quite honestly, I don't remember much for the blubbering any more.. Probably a safety mechanism of my brain All I remember is roast chicken, where the best chicken comes from, why other chickens are not so good, "this one time I had an absolutely horrible chicken"-stories, roast chicken at the October Fest, etc. Arrrgh!

I hope you have a wonderful week, Clark!

  8. I would ask how two people could talk about roasted chicken for 3 hours, but I have a lot to say about fried chicken right now and could maybe rival that...
Godzilla baby! Love it! I just want to squeeze him! What a great week with your kiddos! I think your date with Lily sounds wonderful. Is there anything much better than the smell of a new Barbie doll?
Ugh, rain! We've had so much lately! And then it was 92 degrees yesterday, so it felt like a rain forest. The good news is I haven't had to water my hanging basket outside my front door, which is in full sun and would have been dead by now without all the rain :)

    1. It was torture, believe me, Dyanne! Especially because it was absolutely pointless, just senseless blubber around the topic roast chicken.

We really had a good week with the kiddos. Nothing better than building towers with little Calvin, if he's rested and doesn't complain about something :-) The date with Lily was definitely fun; I'd rather had her buy a paint-by-numbers kit, but another Barbie it had to be.. Sometimes she is indeed a real girly girl :-)

I definitely appreciate that we didn't have to water the lawn in about a week, but the kids are indeed getting stir-crazy cooped up in the house.. But the weather is supposed to be nicer again by Thursday. Keeping my fingers crossed..

      Have a wonderful week, Dyanne!

  9. Co-worker talk can be so mind numbing some days. Glad you survived and had some other great things in your week!

  10. Wow. Even I can't spend three hours on chicken.
Mother daughter dates are so wonderful. And I love the Godzilla game! Our Zilla often plays alone for long stretches (of course she's an only, so duh). But isn't it wonderful to hear them slip off into their own world and be completely entertained?
