Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (107)

Ten Things of Thankful

I hate the heat. I'm one of those people, even if it never got above about 85°, I'd never miss anything. Right now, I'm melting. It's been in the high 90s up to the low triple-digits for over a week now, and I'm so absolutely done. I want to sleep again, I want to cuddle the kids and the hubby again, and especially, I want to feel "not yuckie" again.

Before I take the exit to "self pity", here is why I am also thankful for the heat wave:

1. All the hot water we currently get is 100% heated by the solar panels on our roof, so real savings right there!

2. My friend Mamta being absolutely happy. She was born and raised in India and after about 20 years in Germany, she's still not acclimatized to our climate. So she's mierable in various degrees for about 50 weeks out of the year, and the two weeks everyone else is miserable, Mamta is revelling in the heat.

3. Getting to dry my laundry on the back porch. More saving money and power plus the laundry just smells like sun. Love it!

More of this week's thankfuls (some of them even non-heat-related)

4. A fun neighborhood barbecue with the neighbors. Delicious food, great company, good drinks, sparklers for the girls to celebrate 4th of July, what more could a perfect barbecue need?

5. Richard's summer concert being very beautiful again. There were a lot less visitors than last year, due to the heat, but they did put of shades for the orchestra, so they didn't need the ambulance this year either. The program was shortened, but everyone enjoyed themselves and the concert was over about the same time the temperature reached its peak.

6. The kiddy-pool on our porch; so refreshing just to put my feet in and not move for a while.

7. Costa Rica Banana and Cookie ice cream. Delicious!

8. Surviving my colleagues going-away party without too many tears, and hopes that the girl who covered for me during my maternity leave and continues to do so while I still work reduced hours is going to become a permanent colleague.

9. A few good nights of sleep after a few days of hard teething, poor Calvin!

10. Hubby for being a responsible adult, a partner,

  1. When I'm feeling hot and sticky nothing is more refreshing than dipping my feet in cool water.

  3. I also hate the heat - we would get along just fine! If I never see a day above 85 I'd be delighted. Heck, even 80! :D
Love this "so they didn't need the ambulance this year either" - definitely a good thing! Glad the concert went well.
I never dry laundry on the line but I do love seeing it hanging. Why don't I, anyway? Hmm.
    Have a great week, Stephanie!

    1. I used to dry my laundry on the drying rack year-round, but since our house is still drying out itself, we decided to invest in a super-efficient dryer and only dry our clothes outside now, if possible.

Last year, a member of the orchestra had a heat stroke after the concert, so yes, we were all glad we didn't need the ambulance this year.

Believe me, 80 - 85 would be all I need from summer, no-one needs those near or above 100F temperatures. Except my bestie Mamta!

I hope you're having a great week, Lisa!

    1. I'm reading "Smilla's Sense for Snow" right now to have some cold thoughts :-)

      Enjoy your week, Clark!

  5. You celebrate the 4th in Germany? Did you host it, or are there that many people from the US in your neighborhood?
I'm sorry to hear about your heat wave, that wouldn't be any fun. It seems when one of us has extreme temps, the other is in the opposite direction. We have horrible winter while yours is mild; you have horrible summer while ours is mild. Interesting.

    1. I'd rather have a long, cold winter than this heat wave, Christine! Luckily, it was only really bad for about a week, we're back to temperatures in the 80s again, and it feels so, so good!

We actually did not celebrate the 4th per se, but had a neighborhood bbq that happened to be on the 4th. We brought sparklers to celebrate the American cause a bit, since our family is half-American, but generally, 4th of July is not celebrated here in Germany.

      I hope you're having a wonderful week!

  6. I hate extreme weather. I hate freezing cold temperatures and I hate miserably hot ones. We've had miserably hot and humid for a week or so, and I'm looking forward to the thunderstorms and rain that is forecast and will lower the temps to the low 70s. Of course, it will feel like a rain forest with all that humidity, but it won't be AS bad as it has been!
Glad you enjoyed your bbq. Is it difficult to get fireworks in Germany?
My poor Calvin! Hope those teeth pop through so everyone feels better!

    1. In Germany, we need special approvals for fireworks, and with the heat and the danger of fires, a firework would not have been the best thing to do.

I hate extreme temperatures as well, but prefer cold over hot, since I can always put on another layer of clothing or add a blanket, but with the heat, I'm lost :-) I hope the rainforest climate will subside soon!

Baby Calvin's doing better, but the next tooth is coming in as well. Friggin molars :-(

  7. Heat is awful. It has been a moderate 78 here today, but the humidity is about 200%, I am about to wilt!!
