Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (117)

Ten Things of Thankful

It's the end of my first week back to work at 30 hours, and I guess it'll be doable. I'm not a fan of getting up at 5:30am to catch the bus at 6:15am, but still being home around 2pm is awesome!

My Ten Thankfuls for this week:

1. A very positive performance evaluation at work, even though I've only been back since March, and only for 15 hours until this month.

2. Fair fun with my family. The kids talked us into taking them on a ride for older kids/adults. I went with Lily and our niece, Richard with Violet and our nephew, and in the middle of the ride, it started raining, as if I wasn't sick enough yet. The kids had fun, and that was worth it, I guess?!?

3. Only missing my 6:15am bus once this week.

4. VERY regular bus service into town from our place; when I missed the 6:15-bus, the 6:25-bus was almost there already.

5. Hubby still willing to listen to my rants about a certain pair of colleagues in my office.

6. Violet having a great time back in kindergarten. It's amazing how much she has developed even over the summer break.

7. The kids going back to school/kindergarten/nursery school one by one and not all at once. Helps us as parents to adjust to the early morning routine and chaos of making sure everyone's ready and snacks are packed by 7:30.  :-)

8. Our neighbors. One of them just sold me a whole box of clothes for Calvin that her son had outgrown, and another one is going to watch Lily while Richard is taking Calvin to introduction at nursery school. So thankful for our "village"!

9. An hour of me-time, aka reading in the bus to and from work.

10. A great outing into town with the kids, including lunch with my friend and her family. It's always fun to meet with all of them!

  1. How great that your commute can be relaxing, and give you some down time before and after work!

    1. It's definitely relaxing. Wouldn't be able to finish the Harry Potter series within the next 10 years otherwise :-)

  2. When my boys were younger, I always appreciated the time spent driving to and from work. It gave me a chance to catch my breath along with my thoughts and transition from 'mom' to 'employee'.

    1. Definitely. And just a bit of "me"-time as well, since my evenings went from enjoying some down-time to finishing all the odds and ends and then go to bed..

Hope you have a great week, Vanessa!

    1. Definitely! I gladly get up even before the crack of dawn to be back early in the afternoon to get to spend more time with the family.

      Have a great week!!

    1. It was definitely a good evaluation, given that I've only worked 7 months of the year..

      Enjoy your weekend, my friend!

  5. Sorry to hear there are a couple of...problems...at work. Hope they don't become too much of a problem for you.
It is nice to have school start dates staggered. Transition to full-on school schedule is made quite a bit easier.
I am completely impressed that you can get up at 5:30 and catch the 6:15 bus! Most days. :)

    1. I couldn't catch that bus if Richard didn't pull most of the weight getting the kiddos ready for school in the morning :-) Plus tight organization and prep-work the evening before :-)

Quite honestly, even though the "problems" aren't really my personal problems most of the time, they do disrupt the entire team, which is becoming a major nuisance. Keep your fingers crossed for the meeting next Tuesday!!

      Enjoy your weekend, Christine!

  6. I was reading about you making the 6:15 bus and wondering what happened if you didn't, and you answered it before I could ask! It would be hard to be up and ready that early (and you probably made lunches for the kids and all that before you left), but finishing by 2:00 would be nice!
Hand me downs are fabulous! Can't wait to hear how Calvin does at nursery school!
Glad the girls are adjusting to school schedules. Hope they have a wonderful year!

    1. Honestly, I couldn't catch the bus most of the time if I had to make snacks, etc. Richard does it most of the time. We do prepare outfits the night before, so the girls can get ready mostly by themselves in the morning. It's a tight schedule for all of us during the week :-)

  7. It takes a village...for sure.
    :-)
Early early mornings, but home early is a nice nice trade-off.

  9. the 'problem people' at last something we can apply the Doctrine to…. lets see nearly no information? check! prepared to make some assumptions from across an entire ocean? double check!!
lol (not making light of the situation…and not laughing that the Doctrine can't be useful)… so, the question always comes down to (from the Doctrine perspective) what are their predominant worldviews and how does it affect you.
easy assumption I: this is not 2 scotts we're talking about
easy assumption II: (at least one of them is a roger)
    … await further information
the thing about the Doctrine is that what it does so well is allow us to better understand the other person. And, this does not necessarily make anything better, but it usually leads to finding ways that we can shape the outcome of any interactions…that might be unpleasant.
must stop have said too much already!!

    1. Well, the predominant worldview of both of them is: how can I make everything as easy as possible for ME, regardless of how hard I make it for everyone else in the process. If you ever want to see a self-centered person, there are two sitting there, forming a little black hole of selfishness in the back of the office. We had a nice little meeting this week to see how we can bridge over the following year, with one of our colleagues having reduced his hours and another one missing altogether due to helping out in another team. You had the same 3 people volunteering all the time, two more chipping in, and icy silence from the last two; after they still got some tasks handed over, they were pee'd off as hell for the rest of the day and left an extra 30 minutes early in protest (the "problems" in numbers: 30 hours per week each according to the work contracts; about 27 hours physical presence, about 5 - 10 hours of actual work performed). Still waiting for the day they leave and be replaced by new people, who will have absolutely nothing to do :-) *rant end*
