Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (122)

Ten Things of Thankful

This is Stephanie, writing from somewhere between "I didn't know I could be so tired" and "How does pain-free feel like again???". You have to do better to keep me from being thankful, dear body!

My Thankfuls for this week:

1. My husband. After almost 10 years together, he still goes out of his way to spend a few more seconds with me during a hectic work day.

2. Hot spiced wine. We're having pretty bleak weather here the last few days; this makes everything a little better.

3. Our wonderful paediatrician staying a little longer on Friday afternoon to see Calvin, who managed to contract his first bronchitis of the season.

4. The proverbial village. Our neighbor brought both Lily and Violet to our door this afternoon. They'd been playing with said neighbor's kids and all 5 of them had at some point the glorious idea to throw mud at our neighbors' garages. Our neighbor found them, made all of the clean whatever they could and then brought them back. It definitely is a huge plus having great neighbors like that!

5. Soup. Nothing warms better on a cruddy day than soup.

6. Those few rays of sunshine shining through solid gray skies.

7.Autumn in Franconia.

8. Finishing the Harry Potter series, and having lively discussions with hubby about it now!

9. Calvin truly enjoying nursery school now. The last day he went this week he didn't even cry when hubby left but went right for the toys and started playing when he was dropped off.

10. Apples from my colleagues garden. Yum!!!

Hope to do better next week!  Have a great time, everyone!

  1. The first Harry Potter book introduced the magic, and I loved it, but the last book ran so deep and wrapped up the series nicely. I'm sure you are having great discussions!

    1. We definitely do, Kristi! Also love that Rowling also follows up and ties up somewhat loose ends on side stories in interviews, etc. :-)

  2. Oh when the sun comes out after rain or dark clouds, it's a great feeling.

  3. non-Summer! (yech!) inevitable, of course, and I'm proud of myself in that, this year, I'm not going around expressing surprise at the change in weather… lol (no, really, I used to do that… 'What the hell?! it's getting cold…why?'

  4. We had our first snow flurry this morning!

  6. I snickered a bit about Lily and Violet. I honestly thought that was more of a boy thing, but truly a group will always do a little more mischief than a single child or even a pair. When my boys were little they did something similar - chucking dog poop in a neighbors yard. I did the same as your neighbor and marched them over to apologize and clean up the mess.

  7. Warm soup on a dreary day is the best! How fun you and your husband discuss Harry Potter. My husband has nooo interest.

  8. #1 is the best! :) I know you are so grateful for that.

  9. Congrats on the Harry Potter thing. I read the first book and meant to read the rest..never did.

    1. How could you not?? I refused to even give the series a try for years, but now, as Lily is getting ready to read the first book, I thought it's time to see what my daughter's going to be obsessed with shortly. And I was hooked instantly, couldn't stop!

  10. My poor Calvin is sick?! I hope he's better soon (and that you get some rest and feel better, too).
Soup is the perfect meal in cold weather.
Were the girls covered with mud?

    1. Little man is doing better, but now the molars start bothering him again, poor lad... Quite surprisingly, the girls were not too muddy. Lily's shoes were a mess, but besides that, they were ok..

  11. I love apples and Harry Potter. I am rereading/listening technically to the books again, for I don't know which time now. Listening to the audiobook this time, read by the brilliant Stephen Fry. Wish I had more people to talk HP with myself, but most people I know are sick of talking about it with me by this point.

    1. Well, since I just started, I'm happy to talk about HP any time ;-)

  12. Those backyard apples are the best, aren't they?

My husband never read Harry Potter, so my discussions have all been with my kids. Two of my kids have read the series at least 3 times. My 2nd grader is currently reading the 5th book. That JK is a fabulous writer.

I love a good bowl of soup. I don't make it too often, though, since I am a lousy cook and don't have many good recipes.

I hope you get some sleep and everyone feels better very, very soon!

  13. It is beginning to be soup weather time here. I had the best tasting winter squash soup this weekend when I ate at a potluck. I need to get the recipe and make a batch. It was very yummy.

Your neighbors sound like very good neighbors. I imagine your daughters probably realized that what they were doing wasn't right, but if the others kids were doing it, couldn't be all bad. :-)

    1. Well, there are different versions of the story, but I definitely told Lily that, as the oldest kid, she should have known better. But since no lasting damage was done, I'm not all too upset about it. They were scolded, they did their best to clean up the mess, they apologized, justice was served I suppose ;-)
