Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (129)

Ten Things of Thankful

It's all about the small things, right?

My Ten Thankfuls for this week:

1. The kids meeting Santa for the first time (in the local mall). Mall Santas aren't common in Germany, so I was super-excited when I found out that there's going to be a Santa in our mall. And he was so incredibly nice to the girls. Calvin was not too keen on Santa and went to meet one of the mall's security guards instead  :-)

2. A mall security guard, who is happy to hold and hug a little guy, who's decided that it's more exciting to meet a security guard than Santa.

3. A washer and dryer in our home. I don't want to think about having to wash all those clothes in a laundry shop or, even worse, by hand. No idea how our great-grandmothers and the countless generation before them managed..

4. Two girls entertaining their brother and me with songs on our little road trip to celebrate their cousin's birthday.

5. A couple of hours of sleep in the morning after a night of taking care of a little boy, who thinks that sleep is overrated.

6. So many kind people who support Lily in her decision to go all pixie while some girls in her class try to kick her out of the girls' locker room.

7. A fun afternoon baking cookies with a friend.

8. Making progress shopping for the holidays. No holiday stress planned on these shores!

9. Effective cold medication.

10. Music. It's a common passion between Richard and me. I love it when he plays for me, I love to watch him play on stage, I love listening to music with him. I love the emotions music can stir, how it can energize me or calm me down, how it can make me cry or cheer me up. Life would be bleak without music!

What were you thankful for this week?

  1. Oh, my gosh. I am picturing your son preferring the security guard to Santa. The thought of the guy happily hugging and holding him just does my heart good!

  2. My boy was not a santa fan at all . FInally went to see one when he was three... but it was mid summer and santa was in his workshop at the Yankee Candle Factory where they have santa year round. He wasnt in his red suit and was in overalls making toys so I think he was less scary... My guy asked for him to bring ME a Thing-Ben Grimm (Marvel comics hero) I still have it! It has been in my car for the past 24 years and since wrecking the car in Sept. he has moved into my kitchen!

  3. lol…. I'm with May and zoe, Calvin and the security guard. (Although being from Y Chromia, my visual runs along the lines of, "hey mister, there's this guy dressed in red and beard and I bet he's up to no good! come on, I'll show you!"

  4. Maybe we are seeing a glimpse of your son's future career choice, law enforcement.
    :-)
I can't say I totally blame him about Santa though. The guy in red and white beard can be a bit overwhelming at first glance.

  5. I really wanted to take Samson to meet Santa this year but I can't believe how difficult it is to find one! Love that Calvin preferred the security guard... and really love that the security guard gave him a hug! We've just ordered a new washing machine and tumble dryer and I can't tell you how excited I am about having 2 appliances that will actually work!!

  7. Ha! That is so funny that Calvin wanted to meet the security guard instead! Awesome.
I hate to hear that Lily is having trouble with girls at school. No joke, girls can be so cruel sometimes.
I'm guessing the effective cold medication had something to do with the progress made in the shopping category? :)
Have a great week! Hope you get some more sleep.

  8. Music is keeping me going. SO glad it's there. Love that it made your list. Glad that you all got to visit a mall Santa, and that all of the kids were entertained one way or another. Well done on getting your Christmas shopping underway :)

  10. As much as I complain about laundry I honestly can't imagine what it would be like to not have a washer and dryer at home, or worse to have to do laundry like they did before automatic washing machines.
