The year is slowly drawing to a close. I remember a lot about this time last year, when I started having the first feelings about our little baby growing inside me. The excitement of the knowledge being all my own for a little while longer until I was sure enough to share the news with hubby. And now, we have our little son with us, completing our happy chaos. It is stressful, and with all the sleep deprivation, it feels as if Richard and I barely have half a brain in between the two of us. But we are happy. And tired. Right now, I am so thankful for getting to spend so much time with the entire family, with hubby studying online from home. This is a chance not many families get, and I thoroughly enjoy it.

More thankfuls of this week:

1. A great visit with our friends on Sunday. We usually meet on a Sunday and have a big lunch together. The kids play, the adults share good conversation, and we usually get home way too late, but happy. The friendship is still fairly new, but we've been growing close so quickly.

2. Participating in a food-drive at Violet's kindergarten. The class is preparing food packages to be sent to the Ukraine to support the victims of the war there. It is wonderful that the teachers are teaching the kids about the situations and to share what we have with those less fortunate.

3. Lily being healthy again. She missed three days of school in the last 2 weeks due to a stomach bug; I had several 3am summonings to change sheets full of puke and clean a terrified Lily, poor girl. Luckily, she was able to make up the schoolwork she missed without a problem, and is already halfway through a book she got from the school library on Thursday. So proud of our little reader!!

4. Baking yummie honey cakes. I've been planning on baking some in forever, but never actually fit it in. So glad Calvin and I got to it this week, they are delicious!

5. Violet's allergy test results being all negative. So she's just dealing with a very stubborn cough and mild bronchitis, but thankfully not a chronic allergic bronchitis!

6. Getting the call that our new dryer will be delivered on Monday. So excited! We're taking a break from doing laundry this weekend and simply wait for Monday and our new dryer  :-)

7. Our sweet little Violet. She is the absolutely most amazing little girl in this world. Today, while shopping, we went to the bathroom, and as we were leaving, an elderly lady was about to come in. And what did my little girl do?  She held the door open and stepped aside to let her in. The door was heavy, but she was so proud to be able to help out. I couldn't have been a prouder mommy  :-)

8. Hubby taking better care of me than I do. He frequently sends me to bed, gets up in the morning to give me an extra hour of sleep, makes me coffee, etc. I don't deserve him, but am so thankful for him!

9. Getting to watch the kids. Calvin was teething like a littke madman on Lily's finger, Lily's sqeaking and cussing him out while Violet is rolling on the floor laughing.  They are so hilarious!!

10.  Not falling asleep at the D&D table again and having a fun time playing. This was probably the last game of the year, but I'm looking forward to playing with this awesome group next year again!

What are you thankful for this week?

  1. This post was all sorts of awesome. I am glad your daughter is feeling better & that her school is teaching them about giving. That's wonderful. Hooray for new friendships as well.

    1. Thanks so much, Bianca! The fun thing about this friendship is that it started completely random by me buying something she'd advertized at a closed FB group. When I picked the item up, we started talking and hit it off right away. Then the husbands and the kids also liked each other, Jackpot!

I hope you have a wonderful new week!

    1. They definitely are! I love her even more after finding out that we have the same favorite book. It's not a very known book, so it's rare that anyone knows it at all. She's read and re-read it numerous times, just like me :-)

  4. So glad that Lily's better, and Violet's learning about compassion at school. That's awesome.

The honey cakes sound gorgeous :)

    1. The honey cakes are so yummie! I'm glad I've tried the recipe!

I am really happy with Violet's school most of the time, especially all the charity they are involved with. Can't teach something like that early enough!

  5. Your kids sound like so much fun! Poor Lily - nothing is worse than the stomach bug! Hopefully, Violet's cough will be better soon and everyone will be healthy!
My husband is SO much better at taking care of me than I am of him!
A new dryer! You know you're a grown up when you get excited by new appliances!
Have a wonderful week, Stephanie! Smoochies to Calvin!

    1. I know! I felt so pathetic saying "a new dryer" when Richard asked me what I wanted for the holidays. And that I am now so excited to put in a load of laundry first thing tomorrow :-)

Lily's fine again, Violet's still coughing but it's getting better. I may go back to the pediatrician next Monday should she not be mostly cough-free by then though.

I say Richard is so much better taking care of me than me of him. I have to admit, I tend to forget about him sometimes in the chaos of daily life. He buys me chocolates and hides them under my pillow way more often than I deserve. He buys me breakfast or lets me sleep in. He's the best!!

Calvin was properly smooched, thanks so much, Auntie Dy! He had he best smiley face, I'll share as soon as I've put it on the computer!

      Have the best week, Dyanne!

  6. Oh my goodness, when I got to number four I couldn't quit thinking about the honey cakes. They do sound yummy. So yummy in fact, I sure wish I were your neighbor and could come over and have a bite.

I want a new dryer. Lucky you. Happy Holidays.

    1. Thanks so much, Linda! I'll gladly share the recipe, if you're interested! It's not too difficult!

I know how lucky I am to get this new dryer. But the old one has become a fire hazard and a danger for our family and home.

Have a very happy holiday yourself, Linda! And thank you for stopping by!

  7. Yay for your new dryer! So many great family things to be thankful for this week! Honey cake reminds me of this episode that was on Peg plus cat on PBS that my son watches. Sounds so yummy!

    1. I don't know this show, but the hony cakes are indeed very yummie!

The new dryer is standing sparkly and new in our laundry room, and I can't wait to put in a load of laundry first thing tomorrow morning. Especially since I haven't done laundry since Thursday or so!

Have a great new week, Brittnei!

  8. I remember those half-brained days and sleepless nights! But you're right; they are worth it to have a sweet family. Glad your kids are feeling better. Enjoy your laundry day when that dryer arrives!

  9. Hooray for good reports on those lovely children of yours!
I really loved your first paragraph, Stephanie. While we would never have asked for the Hub to lose his job two and a half years ago or to be out of work for so long, we did have some amazing opportunities during that time. He could be home for Kidzilla while I was working and that gave me some peace of mind about that. He could go to school without the pressure of also working full time. There are so many more...but it is good to recognize when we have those precious opportunities because like you said, not all families get them.
    Have a great week!

    1. I totally agree, Lisa! Time is something that cannot be bought with money and especially something we never get back. Yes, we did hope that Richard would find a job and work while I'm home, but reality opened different doors for us. He's now studying online on the GI Bill, which means income for the family (not as much as we hoped for if we worked, but still a good income), much time together, and eventually he'll have a degree that will open so many doors for him here! We couldn't have asked for anything better!

Have a wonderful week, Lisa & family :-)

  10. Aww not even sure where to begin but so much wonderful things to be thankful for. I love that you were able to get together with friends. I also love Violet and Lily both are on the mend, as nothing is worse then having the kids sick. Also hoping that you had a great weekend and the week ahead too is a good one for you all ;)

    1. It's great so far, Janine! I have a brand-new, sparkly dryer standing in my laundry room, waiting to be put to work tomorrow. Darn, I'm excited :-) The girls are doing better, luckily. Lily's completely recovered. Violet's still coughing and we may have to go back to the pediatrician next week if she's not well by the end of the week, but her cough has gotten a little better, too!

Have the best week, my friend!

  11. #1 time among new(er) friends and (semi) strangers can be a special kind of fun when done as a family unit. good to hear that it is 'only' a cough and not an allegory*

only 5 more days until WInter is over!!

    * spellchek believes that this is the best word for this part of the comment and at first, I was all, 'what the hell!!' and then I re-read it…. and I kinda like the sound of the (sentence-ette? phrase? depend-clause?)

    1. I totally agree, Clark! Even though we've gone from semi-strangers to pretty good friends in no time. We have a lot of things in common, and they are so down-to-earth. We are always looking forward to spending time with them!

The allegory of allergies. Interesting thing to ponder over..

      Enjoy your week, Clark!
