Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (37)

Ten Things of Thankful

And just like that, half my weekend is over. I found a time machine called "sleep"!  I always thought the fatigue would be over after the first trimester (at least it used to be like that); right now I feel as if it's hitting in full force now. But at least I managed to be somewhat productive, preparing the house for a visit from the parents tomorrow.

The ten things I'm incredible thankful for this week:

1. The birthday breakfast out I shared with hubby. We don't get too much couple-time any more these days, and once baby joins us, these moments will become even more scarce, so we enjoy them as they come.

2. Having a fairly easy time back at work. There are times after some time off when I spent days to work through my emails. This time, I managed to sorth through them within a few hours and could go right to my actual work.

3. The kind welcome my colleagues gave me on my first day back. They had decorated my desk for my birthday and besides two gorgeous orchids gave me a bunch of gift cards that will come in very handy once we move.

4. Me not being the only one who was absolutely annoyed by the host guy from the meeting on Wednesday. Obvioulsy, everyone was, and we had quite some conversations about that meeting later.

5. Watching Violet play with Lily's FurReal cat today. She was so adorable with it, and I really can't wait having real cats now  :-)

6. All the cuddles I shared with Lily the past couple of days. I promise, one night I will fall asleep in her bed and wake up the next morning  :-)

7. Seeing the first strawberries at the store. I didn't buy any because I know they only taste like water, but they smell yummie, and their color just makes me happy.

8. The crunchie cereal I used to get as a child. I found it at the store the other day, and it still tastes like it did when I was little. It has happened a lot that things I remember from my childhood are simply not the same any more now. But this cereal is still the same.

9. Hubby baking me apple pie for my birthday. He's the best!!

10. Expecting my parents for a late birthday lunch tomorrow. We're going to try a new restaurant, and hope it's going to be good  :-)

Have a great weekend, everyone, and thank you for hosting, Lizzi!!

  1. (in hope…) FRIST COMment (?)
    lol
sounds like you have a good work environment, in terms of people, and, of course on the home front. I have, from time to time, thought of looking up the old foods of youth (thinking Sugar Pops…suspect they don't exist or are something less than the simple 'sugar-delivery-system' that most breakfast cereals in the 60s and 70s were).

    1. First comment, Clark!! The cereal I got was a crunchy oat-based cereal, and at least doesn't appear to be too high-sugar. I remember my mom buying that one when I was a kid, and I loved it. So to make me happy, she bought the no-name brand at the grocery store that looked the same but was having a certain extra ingredient that the other didn't have and made a huge difference: coconut flakes. She bought like 10 packs of it, and I hated it but still had to finish it. I check every time before I buy a cereal if it has coconut in it, a total deal-breaker for me!! Good luck finding your nostalgia food, Clark :-)

    2. Sugar pops are still out there! And I suspect they still hurt your teeth! Wild nostalgia though!

    3. Never heard of them, but they do sound as if they hurt your teeth :-)

  2. I'm with Clark on this one - cereal. I love it and you made me curious about what kind you had. One of my all time favorites from way before your time was Crispy Critters. I loved that cereal but I don't think it's been produced in 30 years!! There's no other comfort food like cereal:)
Happy Birthday Stephanie! I think birthday pie is a wonderful idea. Your request or the hubs specialty?

    1. I loved Crispy Critters, too! And Alphabits. Do they still make those?

    2. I grew up in Germany, so it's not any brand you'd know. It's actually a pretty boring muesli-like cereal with raisins, but SO delicious!! My always-go-to comfort food is spaghetti and tomato sauce; the world is right when I eat a large mound of that deliciousness :-) Birthday pie was awesome! It's both hubby's specialty and my request. And it was delicious! Thank you so much for stopping by!!

  4. Happy birthday :) Apple pie is amazing, and home-made is even better.

I LOVE cereal. I'm glad you had one which tasted like childhood :)

    1. We only do home-made pie, Lizzi! Can't any pre-made or frozen here. And there's nothing better than the smell of fresh apple pie, or any baked goods :-) Have a great new week, Lizzi!

  7. Homemade apple pies are the BEST! I was sooooo craving strawberries yesterday and our grocery store was OUT so I guess the rest of Cleveland was craving them as well!

    1. Could you get the frozen ones? Those taste better during that season as well, if you can get over the consistancy (or just put them in an blender with a bunch or tequila!!). Can't wait for perfect, fresh, tasty local strawberries!! Thank you so much for stopping by, Sarah!

  8. Happy birthday, Stephanie! Sounds like everyone is working to make it wonderful for you! And never fall for those early strawberries. Hold out for the good ones - it will be worth the wait!

    1. Oh, I know! Can't wait for the delicious local ones!! Unfortunately, we cannot eat the wild ones from the forest because the foxes like to infest those with some gross parasites, but we'll get some plants for our yard!! I hope you have a great new week, Dyanne!

  9. See I don't even like apple pie and now I kind of want some...what's that about? Homemade pie is good in general, though.
I'm with Dyanne - hold out for the berries that are truly in season. If there is one thing I've learned over the last year since getting involved in the local CSA, it's that local and in-season foods are truly the better option. I hate to even think about how long my food is holed up on a truck before I see it!
Happy birthday! And have a great week!

    1. I don't plan on buying the watery strawberries that are out right now, I'm definitely going to wait for the local goodness we're going to have here in summer, yum yum!!

Hubby's apple pie is excellent, I admit his is lots better than mine, and all of my co-workers loved it. I bet you'd like it, too!!

      Have a great weekend, Lisa!

  10. Sounds like the birthday week has been a good one for you!
I only eat the cereal from my childhood on vacation, as it was just one big bowl of sugar. Lucky Charms. Yum. We ate a lot of cookie crisp, too. I just can't do it (or feed it to my kids) regularly. It feels wrong. :)
Enjoy lunch with your parents! (or if it's already happened, hope it was lovely!)

    1. I had a great birthday, thanks a lot, Christine! The lunch was awesome, especially since a friend also came to join us. I love having a table full of people :-)

I may be weird, but the cereal I got is not much on the sugary side. It's more a muesli-like cereal with oat-clusters and raisins, SO yummie!!
