Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (88)

Ten Things of Thankful

It's a "Schnapszahl"-TToT this week (look this up, German is so much fun!!), and it's not my first post of the week, thanks to a number of wonderful women thinking up the amazing project of 1000 Voices speaking for Compassion. Such an outpour of emotion is truly something that will be remembered for a while!

Besides the #1000 Voices on Friday, here are this week's ten thankfuls:

1. Being home for Lily's winter break. Once the spring break will roll around, I'll be back at work for 15 hours per week, still have plenty of time to spend with the kids, but it will be different. I am really thankful for the time I got to spend with my family these last 8 months, which was a unique opportunity and has opened doors we didn't even know existed for our family.

2. A game of musical "Go Fish" with Lily on Monday morning, while Calvin was napping and Violet was in kindergarten. After starting just normal, we started singing at each other more and more, until we were only singing to each other, to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it...". So much fun!!

3. Spending some quality time with Violet, doing hair. She's definitely my little princess, and loves to get her hair combed and styled. Even though I love when she cuts her hair to this adorable bob she used to have, I also can't wait for her hair to be long enough to try out even more styles!

4. Looking at our baby, sleeping peacefully, when I go to bed at night. I enjoy those short moments every night, in between me going to bed and Richard finishing brushing his teeth. In no time, our little boy will be all grown up. I can't believe he's 6 months old already, halfway to toddlerhood, rolling all over the place; therefore these moments are so very much treasured in my heart.

5. A glimpse of spring. Even though I would prefer some more winter-wonderland, taking the kids out to the playground to enjoy the balmy air was fun. The girls were plaing with other kids and Calvin was sitting in the swing all by himself for the first time.

6. D&D Friday night. It's been so silly, when the bard came up with singing a song of endless praise to the minotaurs, with the warlock as harmony and the barbarian and fighter as background dancers. Obviously, it freaked out the minotaur and his gnolls enough to just let us pass the road. One of the easiest fights ever  :-)

7. Another one of my friends moving to our town. She's going to have her third baby in September and I am looking forward so much spending more time with her and her family!

8. Dark, dark chocolate and hot chocolate with a cream hat.

9. An outing with all three kids to IKEA. We got some odds and ends and we enjoyed a yummie lunch together. I was doing outings like that every once in a while with the girls before Calvin was born, and I didn't think I could take this tradition back up so quickly!

10. Backrubs from my Lily. She's such a doll, sneaking up behind me and rubbing my back, because she thinks that I deserve it. I don't think so, but she's such a sweetheart!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. "...Obviously, it freaked out the minotaur and his gnolls enough to just let us pass the road..." Well of course it did! So does Schnapszahl mean brandy? I looked it up but the english translation is pretty much Schnapps... ha! Have a great week and keep enjoying those three little ones!

    1. You actually did look it up :-) A "Schnapszahl" is a number (Zahl) you see double because you're on too much hard liquor (Schnaps).

Have a wonderful week yourself, Ivy and Douglas!!

    2. (thank you for clearing that up! the first set of returns included on translation: 'brandy number' )
sorry to bust into a thread… lol

    3. I am also glad you cleared that up - Google translator did not give me quite that good an explanation!
I'm going here because I want to quote the same line as Ivy - about the minotaur freaking out. :D My geek husband also enjoyed that one and says he has a few that are "frighteningly absurd." I also suspect they are the "had to be there variety"
You have beautiful moments here for the week. Your happiness just shines in every word!

    4. There'S not really a word in English for the German "Schnapszahl", it's more of a cultural concept :-) I have to add that I missed the EPIC opportunity to welcome the hubby with a 12 or 24-piece mini-crate of one-shot liquor bottles on his last "Schnapszahl"-birthday. And I did make the mistake of telling him about it. I hope he doesn't pay me ahead of time on my birthday :-)

  2. Sounds like you are enjoying every moment with your little ones - I love that! And yes, dark chocolate is always a thing of thankful. Always.

    1. Those little ones grow way too fast! I'm packing up Calvin's tiny-baby stuff to sell it, and I already can't believe that he used to fit those itty-bitty things!

      Have a wonderful week, Jen!

  3. Chocolate is yummy. Last night, my husband and I went out to eat. Our server told me she was "proud of me" for nearly finishing the big piece of chocolate cake I had ordered. Hidden talents, right? (As she had brought a carry-out box already, I waited until I got home to really finish the cake!)

    1. Eating tons of sweets is definitely an accomplishment. Since I missed dinner today due to an exorbitant lunch with friends and a Calvin in the evening, I just devoured an insane piece of ciabatta bread with nutella. I'm actually almost ashamed of myself, but it WAS yummie :-)

Have a wonderful new week, Kristi!!

  4. I can't believe it's been eight months. You've spent that time exactly the right way. I'm glad you were able to take advantage of the time off.
    You have such sweet kids.

    1. I can't believe it either, Christine! The time just flew, and now that it's time to go back, I wished I'd taken the entire year off. It's so hard to leave the baby, but then again he does need to adjust to other people caring for him, because it is becoming a strain on me.

You have a bunch of wonderful kids yourself! You and Brian can definitely be proud of each and every one of them!

      Have a great week, Christine!

  5. I'm glad you were able to spend some time with your kids. I may have gotten misty eyed when you described your 6 month old. My son will be 3 in June & I miss that stage. It does go by too quickly. So glad to hear that you have a friend moving to your town.

    1. I know! Our oldest just turned 7, and I still remember the moment they put this seriously pee'd off newborn on my stomach all those years back. Sometime I wish that day back, but then again I so treasure the memories we've made in the meantime and I can't wait for what's ahead.

      Have a great week, Bianca!

  6. A lovely week filled with family joy and simple family moments. And chocolate. Dark, dark chocolate.

    1. Dark chocolate is the best. I found some 95% cocoa chocolate at the store but have not yet been brave enough to face so much darkness. I think I'll stay with the 85% :-)

      Enjoy your week, Val!

    1. It's worth a trip. I sometimes take the kids just to share a meal and allow them some playtime in the Smalland. They really love it there :-)

      Have a great new week!!

  8. "...he's 6 months old already, halfway to toddlerhood no way! time can not be accelerating that rapidly! halfway to toddlerhood! heck next summer you'll be telling us that he's got his Learner's Permit!*

    1. Something like that! Lily just brought home her first report card, Violet is playing 'Tendo (which Daddy loves to no end), and Calvin is rolling around the house as if there was no tomorrow. How comes, I still remember a madly screaming Lily being put on my stomach right after he was born as if it was yesterday, and now she's a big sister of two!!

  9. Whatever wonderful, eloquent comment I left the last two times and that I seem to have lost into cyberspace is completely gone from my mind. Let's see, musical go fish - cool. Violet's hair - lots of YouTube videos on how to do all kinds of braids and stuff. Friend moving to town - sweet! Ikea - jealous. Calvin - adorbs!

    1. Isn't he the most adorable little pugs?? :-) Stupid internets, I wanted to read the eloquent portion, too! I know that there are tons of videos, but I am not very crafty with hair, and Violet is such a wriggly worm. But I may something that fits our Princess V. perfectly :-) Have a wonderful new week, Dyanne!
