Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (83)

Ten Things of Thankful

Poor Calvin is teething - big time. On Tuesday, the laddie was not only drooling like a leaking Hoover Dam but also crying in pain. There's nothing worse than my baby being in pain and not being able to help him.  Luckily, he's doing better now, sometimes figuring out new ways to keep me up at night.

My (tired) Ten Thankfuls for this week:

1. Coffee!!!  (actually, this week this one should count for at least 1 - 7!!)

2. A combination of homeopathic remedies and motrin to help Calvin get comfortable again and get some sleep (along with ready access to a pharmacy and medication in general).

3. Hubby being a gem and taking Violet to kindergarten after an especially rough night, making me fresh coffee and buying breakfast on the way back from kindergarten. Yup, he's mine!!!!

4. Breakfast with a friend.

5. Hubby surprising me with a game of Scrabble and tea one night. When we were newly-weds we'd spend parts of our Sunday afternoon at a cafĂ© playing Scrabble, but he's been refusing to play with me for quite a while, because my locking up the board with well-placed 3-letter words was just too frustrating after a while.  I'm doing better now!

6. Back-rubs from my Lily. She's such a sweet girl!

7. Violet doing well in her speech therapy. Well enough actually that her therapist suggested a break until April to see how she develops on her own. I see another afternoon opening up  :-)

8. Meeting up with a friend and her children. Her baby is only 20 days younger than Calvin and it was so funny seeing the boys interact with each other.

9. Home-made brownies. Yum.

10. Long, long, long afternoon naps with a cuddly baby. I know, this one is a regular on here right now, but last week, those afternoon naps were certainly life-savers!

What are you thankful for this week??

  1. Number three.. Thats a gold mine right there.

Number six. Yes my daughter does back rubs too and I think I get just as much pleasure in treasuring her little gentle touches as I do the actual rub!

    Naps are always appreciated!

    1. I wouldn't know what to do without hubby. He's awesome!! Lily's such a sweetie taking care of her sleep-deprived mommy :-) Naps are wonderful these days. Nothing beats cuddling this sweet little guy!

  2. Your Scrabble games made me smile. I know exactly what he means by blocking up the board with 3-letter words! Sometimes, though, you just don't have the letters to do anything else. :)

I had breakfast with a friend this week, too. Such a nice little break, isn't it?

    1. It's wonderful! I'll miss the weekly morning I spend with my friend once I return to work. I think at that time my vocabulary was also part of the issue. And week after week of locked up boards, he just got tired :-) But we've really had a great time playing this week!

      Have a wonderful week, Christine!

  3. Keep playing Scrabble. It is a marriage saver! Well, not just Scrabble. But as newlyweds in the mid-eighties we used to play board games of all sorts. It was the relaxing together, snuggling and being content with something so simple that was good for us. Now that our nest has emptied, we are back to evenings just like that again. It feels so romantic now I guess because it was our newlywed routine. ~May@Achieving Clarity

    1. I agree. I sometimes get nostalgic about the times we slept in at the weekends, went to see the matiné at the local theater and have coffee afterwards while playing board games. It was incredibly romantic and I'm already lookign forward to a time when we can do that every once in a while again. In the meantime we enjoy your dates at home :-)

Thank you so much for sharing, May, and have a wonderful week!!

  4. Now that you mention it, my Hubby and I also used to play Scrabble a lot in the early days. We've been together for 18 years now and I honestly don't remember the last time we played, but I do know where our Deluxe Edition Scrabble board is hanging out. Maybe I'll surprise him by dragging it out one night this week. It sounds like you had a nice, cozy mommy time week. Wishing you a wonderful week to come!

    1. For us it's half that time; we're together for 9 years now, and I can't believe how quick time has passed. It funny and wonderful to see for how many people Scrabble was part of their newly-wed stage. It is an awesome game! I think surprising your hubby with the game is a wonderful idea. I hope you two have tons of fun!

      Have a great week, Jen!!

  5. A lovely week in spite of no sleep and teething. I'm a beast when I don't get enough sleep. Scrabble is my game! My son and I played often and now I'm a Words With Friends junkie, playing more than 20 games at a time on my phone.

    1. I'm a cranky hag without enough sleep as well. But luckily, my family is ver understanding, and I get to sneak naps with the baby a lot. Scrabble is an awesome game indeed!

      Have a wonderful week, Val!

    1. Thank you so much, Zoe! Unfortunately, these mean teeth are causing him quite some issues, poor boy. I love Scrabble as well, and I'm glad that hubby is willing to play with me again :-) Have a wonderful week, Zoe!

  7. Scrabble is awesome. Husby is learning to like it, for me, bless him!

I really hope that Calvin's teeth stop giving him gyp SOON! For his sake really, and yours...I imagine it's no fun for any of you, and so sad when there's nothing you can do to fix things for him or make it better. Well done you for hanging in there and finding things which help.

YAY for the speech therapy break - that's AWESOME!

I'm really pleased you got to have breakfast with a friend. That's so important and so special. When we have a friend to spend time with In Real, we often forget what a wonderful thing that is :)

    1. Right now, I get to meet my friend about every week, which I certainly enjoy properly! Hope to be able to meet her quite often as well once I go back to work.

Scrabble is indeed very awesome, and I'm glad that hubby's willing to play with me again :-) How wonderful that your hubby's playing SCrabble for you!!

Violet has indeed made some good progress in her speech, and I'm excited to find out how she's going to develop on her own.

We, too, hope that teething passes quickly. Richard and I are both quite sleep deprived, and I can tell you, it's not fun!!

      Have a wonderful week, Lizzi!!

  8. I hate to be the contrarian* but I have never taken to scrabble. You would think it would be a natural, enjoying words and such. Speaking of coffee, I may start to see if actual fresh brewed coffee is worth the effort (I drink instant)… tried some last week (Phyllis has the whole set up… whole beans, grinder thingie.. act).
Hey, I bet you'd enjoy the movie we saw last night (I mentioned in my Post) 'Predestination' one of the best 'time travel' movies I've ever seen.

    * yeah, I know right

    1. Freshly brewed coffee is definitely worth the effort, as is really cleaning the pot and coffee maker carefully after each use. Just try it :-) I simply can't do instant coffee any more!

I'm really surprised you never got into Scrabble. It's hands-down one of my favorite games.. Do you do crosswords??

The girls went to see "Baymax" with Daddy, but please don't ask which was the last movie I've seen in the theater, I believe it was "Frozen" :-)

      Enjoy your week, Clark!

  9. Your Hubby does the same kinds of things my Hub does - these guys are gems!
Scrabble - or whatever you choose - is a good way to have a common activity, a bond, something you do together. It's important. Fun, too! We've been playing Scrabble (now Words with Friends) since we met. Still great!
Yay for remedies to help your little guy - hope he gets some relief (and you some sleep)!
    Coffee always gets cheers!

    1. They totally are! Nothing beats truly supportive hubbies!

We love Scrabble. A mix of fun and nostalgia. Can't wait to spend Sundays with him at a coffee shop, playing Scrabble again :-)

I, too, hope that he finally gets some relief. Last night has been horrible, poor guy Coffee was definitely once again a life saver :-)

      Enjoy your week, Lisa!

  10. That man of yours sure is a keeper. I share the pain of watching your baby suffer. I came home from my weekend away to find my youngest quite sick. I laid with him until he fell asleep and off to the dr we go tomorrow.

    1. Oh no, I hope your little guy is feeling well again. There's nothing worse than watching our babies suffer..

Hubby is indeed a keeper. Couldn't imagine a better partner and dad for our children!

      Have a great week, Sarah!

  11. Mutant and I tried to play Scrabble, but while I'm playing with words, he's playing with numbers and always wins. Swiftly and with little of my dignity in tact. One of these days we'll find a game that is fun for us.

Teething... ug... not my favorite childhood season. Thank heavens we only have to go through it once.

Coffee, breakfast and good speech evaluations!! Makes my heart glad.

    1. Calvin's by far my worst teether. Lily only drooled like crazy and suddenly, all those little teeth started popping out. Violet had some more issues, but by far not as bad as Calvin, poor little guy!

I hope you find a game for both of you as well! Enjoy trying some out!!

      Have a wonderful week, Rebecca!
