Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (89)

Ten Things of Thankful

I'm writing this post from my new laptop!!  Big thankful right there for hubby to spoil the heck out of me and buying me a new laptop as my old one quite annoying, freezing up for longer periods of times after about 15 minutes of using it. Very happy with my new HP!!

More thankfuls for this week:

1. A great last week of maternity leave. I got an extra hour of sleep in the mornings after Calvin decided that the perfect time to start the day is between 5:30 and 6:00, because my wonderful hubby volunteered to get up with him every single day!!

2. Making progress with Calvin's bedtime routine. We try to teach him to fall asleep without nursing, so today, after his nighttime nursing, I held him and rocked him to sleep. He's been asleep ever since, despite coughing up a storm, poor baby!

3. A wonderful doctor who rather considers all natural and little-invasive options first before prescribing the hard stuff. Right now, so many doctors are all-too.happy to prescribe antibiotics for about everything. So far, Violet has only gotten them once after everything else has failed, and they worked perfectly. Now, Calvin is again on natural remedies for yet another of his upper respiratory infections, and we hope that they will also work this time around. Hurts me listening to the poor baby cough over the babyphone, and definitely need some nighttime sleep myself again soon!

4. Chocolate cake! Delicious, delicious chocolate cake!

5. Lily having friends. Starting elementary school, I was a pretty lonely kid for the longest time, with books being my only friends.  Even though Lily loves her books and I physically have to draw her nose out of them at times, she also has a lot of friends she spends time with, visits, argues and reconciles with. This week, she was gone 3 out of the 5 afternoons while still being on top of her school work and reading books as if her life depended on it!

6. Free library passes for the girls. Our local library hands out free library passes for everyone under 18, which is an awesome way to ensure that the kids of low-income families also have access to books, educational games, CDs, etc.  And both girls are very proud of their very own library passes (I found that my own had expired when we tried getting books for the girls, since I usually use my work's library).

7. Morning walks to kindergarten with Violet and Calvin. The mornings are still quite brisk here, so the grass is frosted and the puddles covered with a layer of ice, which is the highlight of Violet's day at that point. By pick-up time, the ice is usually gone, so no more stomping on ice puddles for her then.

8. Rediscovering the local farmer's market. I bought veggies there twice this week, and it's so nice to buy there instead of the grocery store. Meeting the people who actually grow the food and are able to answer questions about the fruits and veggies they sell, bringing paper bags of loose food home versus shrink-wrapped packages, etc.

9. Our wonderful, silly D&D group. We may not be together as we are now for all too much longer, as a couple from our round may have to leave the country in the next months, but in the meantime, we enjoy being together, killing stuff, singing songs, eating and drinking together, and everything else around the greatest game ever!

10. Time outs for adults. Today, I really needed my 10 minutes, and I was thankful I had a place to retreat, calm myself, consider, and come out again in a much, much calmer mood, ready to face the rest of the day.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!  Consider your thankfuls, as they are not for granted!

    1. I usually go to my work's free library, because late-fees suck and my work's library doesn't charge them. But generally, all libraries are awesome!! Thank you so much for stopping by, Carin!

  3. Wonderful thankful and like you I finally got a new laptop, too. I had a MacBook Pro 13 (a few years old) and it was so slow and also constantly freezing. So, finally got a new Macbook Pro 15 and loving it, too. Have a great weekend, as well ;)

  4. Libraries are wonderful, and I think the love of libraries is often started in childhood.

  6. The power cord for my laptop isn't working properly anymore. I have to mash it in the little opening and strategically place the cord for it to charge, which I fear means the beginning of the end. It's only 3 years old. Shouldn't they last longer than that?
How nice that Lily is socializing AND keeping up with her school work! (My daughter is like that. I have one social butterfly and one bookworm at my house.)
Smashing frozen puddles on the way to kindergarten is way cool!
By the way, LOVE the pic you posted for me of Calvin in his swing! I'll come push him any time!

    1. Oh, and the chocolate cake! Did you remember to have a piece for me?

    2. I absolutely had a piece in your honor, Dyanne. Didn't take a picture though, it was gone too quickly :-) Lily is both, a social butterfly and a bookworm. She was sick last Wednesday and spent the day in bed reading, When I got home from work, she complained about having a headache. A no-brainer, if a certain little girl has been reading for hours on end WITHOUT her glasses on :-)

I absolutely agree that a laptop should last longer. Maybe tape the plug on with duct tape??

  7. It is such a blessing to have a public library. I can't say ours is free, though. I mean, the card is free, but we have paid sooooo many fines for lost or late books. I have to just keep telling myself it is an investment in their education.

I hope your first week back to work goes well.

    1. There is a card fee for adults, but the kids' cards are free, and I hope they remain free :-) I usually prefer to use my work's library, because they don't charge late fees and I'm in the building 3 days a week right now..

Thanks a lot, my first week back was great, save for the cold I can't get rid of, including fever spikes, etc. But I made it, and everyone was just so supportive!!

Have a great rest of the week, Christine!!

  8. libraries are very much one of the best places for a child… it is one of the few places (that are part of the real world) that clarklike children can feel comfortable (and competent).
Thats not to say that scottian and rogerian children don't enjoy libraries, as they do…. but for the clarks it is one of the hopeful signs that there is a chance to learn the ways of the world they observe around them (and everyone else appears to already know).
March is not a bad month.

    1. The girls are both so excited about going to the library, we all had so much fun!! I know that the school library was my second home, at least the place I felt most comfortable at outside my home..

I, too, think that March is not a bad month. Excited for what it may bring! Last year, we had our first outside picknick in March!!

  9. I haven't been to my library in years. That is shameful I know. My daughter is a big user of it though so that sort of makes up for it, right?

    1. Totally makes up for it, Pattie!! I know hoe busy life with children can be, so we don't always get the time to sit down and read. That's why I love taking the bus, that's my time!

Have a wonderful rest of the week, Pattie!

  10. I loved the library as a child. Kidzilla has her own library card and we've made great use of it. Not as much during the school year when she has access to the school library, but in the summer we have a great time there. I have not checked much out because my pile at home is so large, but I think this summer I may use it to pick up a few things I want to read, but don't necessarily want to own.
Adult time outs are a wise thing. :D
    Happy week!

    1. I'm more a renter than an owner of books. I only buy books I really, really enjoy and plan to re-read. Hubby loves to own books, so yes, we own a few books. Lily is a book-lover as well, and Violet loves to have books read to her until she can repeat it word by word. And both girls love to read to Calvin, so he's destined to take up the family hobby :-)

Have a wonderful rest of the week, Lisa!!
