Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (63)

Ten Things of Thankful

Last night has not been one of the "good" nights. It was a back and forth between hubby's snoring waking up the baby who, in return, woke up the hubby with his complainy-squeal, and mommy (that's me) did not get any sleep at all. Plus, we're currently taking care of a lot of 5 kids total (no casualties as of now, but hubby and I sure count down the hours until our little guests get to go home), so quiet time is not happening. But still, last week was again full of things to be thankful for!

1. Fall fruit, which translates into yummie streussel cakes!

2. Sleeping in with Calvin. There's nothing better than cuddling up with the little guy after the 6am feeding and sleep another 2 hours or so.

3. Hubby being a gem and taking Violet to kindergarten the last week so that Calvin and I can sleep in.

4. A great afternoon with a friend and her baby, who is only a good month older than Calvin.

5. Cuddling with the girls before getting up in the morning or at bedtime.

6. An awesome and supportive boss. I've been doing the paper work for my extended parental leave last week (I won't be working full time until the little guy is 2) and couldn't remember if we had agreed on an arrangement once I'll work 30-hour weeks again. I called to check what she'd prefer, and she told me just to write down what I prefer and if another arrangement would prove to be a better fit, we'll be flexible and re-arrange my hours.

7. This!!

8. Fall shopping (yes, I've started browsing!)

9. Lily being excited to start first grade. I know, in the years to come there will be plenty of moments when she wishes she wouldn't have to go to school. But right now she can't wait until her first day of elementary school.

10. Getting the furniture delivered on Monday and Tuesday. I've only ordered the furniture for the girls' rooms back in mid-May.. At least, they are going to set everything up for free for us since they went over 6 weeks past the agreed delivery schedule.

What are you especially thankful for this week??

I loved mornings with a newborn and a preschooler, getting lots of cuddle time with both of them. Such sweet memories!
You have quite a Catch-22 with your husband's snoring and Calvin's crying! Hopefully, it was a one night thing and won't happen again (finger's crossed!).
Yay for fall fruit and turning leaves and cooler temperatures and little girls happy to go to school!

  2. Streussel cake sounds good - you got a recipe? Which fruit are you using?

Sounds like you've done a good job to find those Ten in amongst all the no-sleep! I do badly on no-sleep when it's not my choice.

BTW, did I tell you yet how much I like the name Calvin? :)

    1. I do badly on little sleep as well, but I think I've learned to cope during the last 6.5 years :-)

I made one sheet with fall plums and another one with apples and red currants, so yummie! But you could use about any fruit. I'll share the recipe next week!!

Thanks so much, Lizzi! It was fairly difficult to find a name we both liked. :-) Hope you have a great new week, Lizzi!!

  3. OH HOW I LOVE THE NAME CALVIN! and that size and age is perfect despite the crying... the snorey hubs that would unfortunately be getting my wrath... not like he can help snoring...

    1. I can't STAND snoring either, the sound makes me livid :-) Luckily, Calvin made his displeasure known and made the snoring stop. Right now, however, he's peacefully sleeping off his milk coma in my arms :-) Have a great new week, Zoe!!

  4. Number six is fabulous - I can't believe that parental leave thing you have going over there!!!
And number seven? Yeah. Totally amazing.
Fall fruit and fall colors and just fall all around is awesome! Kidzilla starts first grade on Tuesday and she's pretty excited! Here's to the new first graders!

    1. Here's to our new frst-graders indeed!! We should let them become pen-pals, so they can practice their reading and writing in a fun way :-) I'm really excited about enjoying the benefits of the German maternity / parental laws for the first time! Oh, I love dark, dark chocolate!!! Have an amazing week, Lisa!!

  5. I've had the baking itch lately and now have about 20 loaves of zucchini bread in my freezer. There's nothing quite like cuddling up with your babies :) Have a great weekend.

  7. I agree L and zoe and them about the name you picked for your smallest human… (you are aware of a rather excellent comic strip, 'Calvin and Hobbes' ? drawn by Bill Watterson… regrettably no longer running). Calvin was all that small boys should (but all too often are not) be…
and what's the the speeded up time thing? for the relatively short time I have known you (and the others) here at the TToT I am getting this Disney-speeded-up-film-of-growing-things… lol actually it is rather cool

    1. We are aware and LOVE Calvin and Hobbes. Trying to get a Hobbes for our little Calvin, but they don't make those :-( I somehow hope that our Calvin turns out like the comic-Calvin :-) I have no idea why time flies like that. If I happen to stumble over the answer, I'll share with you :-) Have a great week, Clark!

  8. I love seeing other bloggers talk about chocolate. It's an important part of my life. :) Hehe. Oh! Sleeping in with a newborn. I can only imagine how wonderful that must have felt. My hubby snores! Oh the things I will have to look forward to in a few months!

    1. Chocolate is an important part of my life, and since I don't smoke and can't drink wine right now, I guiltlessly indulge in my chocolate addiction :-) Calvin is generally a fairly good sleeper, but unfortunately with kindergarten back on, sleeping in won't happen too often any more :-( Have a great week, Brittnei, and enjoy your pregnancy!

    1. The maternity / parental laws are awesome in Germany, Kristi. But my boss is definitely extra-supportive :-)

  11. I am just catching up a bit now this morning after a long, holiday weekend here. I will say I totally remember those first few months of stealing some extra sleep in the mornings when I could. Glad you were able to do that and just sorry for the lack of sleep in the evenings though. But still those extra cuddles and snuggles make it all worth it :)
