Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (82)

Ten Things of Thankful

Unfortunately, I don't remember much about last week. Sleep deprivation sucks big time, and someone should tell the little terrorist in my bed that depriving a person of sleep is actually a form of torture.

Still, the ten things I'm incredibly thankful for this week:

1. Having the little terrorist who keeps me awake!

2. My parents for happily taking in their oldest daughter plus offspring for two nights while hubby was at the orchestra retreat.

3. Hubby for having the opportunity to escape the daily routine for a few days every year to spend with his orchestra buddy and rehearse until his mouth hurts. We miss him, but I'm happy for him taking this time for himself.

4. Living in a country where - while my rights are limited and oppressed by the government to a point - I can live freely as an Atheist. I can speak freely and our kids sleep in peace. The attacks on free speech in Paris made me the more thankful for this right.

5. School and kindergarten being back on and the girls back in their routine.

6. Welcoming the muddiest little princess you can imagine at our doorstep this Thursday, smiling her biggest princess smile. I didn't even have to ask if she had fun  :-)

7. Lily doing so well in school, and having fun going.

8. Getting to talk a little bit to the mom of the new girl in Violet's kindergarten class today. She happens to live really close to us, and is new to this town, so I'm probably having her over for a cup of coffee or tea soon!

9. Coffee to get me started in the morning and tea to help me quiet down at night. Both shared with the hubby.

10. Having reclaimed our living room, kicked out the tree, put away the holiday deco for another season. Each year I'm excited to get everything out, but almost equally excited to pack everything away to reclaim our "normal" life.

What are you thankful for this week?

  1. So sorry you aren't sleeping well and remember those times so well, especially with Emma having colic and being a bad teether. Hoping you get some rest soon and a better weekend ahead.

    1. I hope so, too :-) I do get quick naps here and there, but I'm still so tired I get on my own nerves :-) Calvin is teething as well, which may be why he's not sleeping so well. I'm going to get him some natural remedies next week!

Hope you have a great week ahead, Janine!

  2. Sleep deprivation is hard! Hopefully the little guy sleeps for longer stretches soon so you can, too.

I loved #6. My youngest used to love to go splashing in mud puddles, and I'm the kind of mom who let her. :-)

    1. I'm so happy if the girls come home from the playground covered in dirt; this means they had tons of fun!!

I, too, hope that the little guy sleeps better tonight. He's teething, and it's obviously bothering him, poor baby..

I hope you have a great week, Kristi!

  3. hey!! early early this weekend!! (lets see, allowing for 7 timezones, continental drift, the monetary exchange rate…and…the metric system!!), it should be 3 in the afternoon of next week there!
…why, yes, I am up writing comments very early myself, lol

    1. Thereabouts, Clark :-) My Friday night plans changed, so I thought might as well start early! Now go back and catch a few zzz's in my honor or come by to babysit the little dude so I can :-)

      Enjoy your week!!

  4. The muddy princess brought a smile to my face. And so does coffee. Je suis Charlie

    1. Muddy princess makes me happy, too :-) Her teachers told me that she's all princess in the class room, but as soon as she puts on her wellies and mud pants, she's rolling in the dirt. Just the way she should be! Coffee is indeed a life saver!

Have a wonderful new week, Val!! // Je suis Charlie, je suis Ahmed

  5. Our motto is, "The messier you are, the more fun you had"! Of course, now that I write that down, and my teens are in the next room, we will probably have to change that motto at some point. Messy as a young adult isn't such a good thing.
I hope you get some sleep soon and enjoy your coffee/tea with your new neighbor.

    1. Thanks so much, Christine! The day after I picked Violet up from kindergarten, and she was still fairly clean. I asked her if she had fun, and she said no, not a bit. I responded: well, you're way too clean for having had fun properly. And the princess looks at me and nods.. Love this girl so much!! But I whole-heartedly agree, messy young adults are gross!

I hope for some sleep soon, too!! Have a great new week, Christine!!

  6. *grins* The Muddy Princess sounds like she could be a character in a book. I love it :)

I'm so glad that you've managed your thankfuls in spite of being so sleep-deprived. I hope you get some really good rest soon. It's awful when you're missing out on it and trying to cope.

    1. It totally does :-) Feel free to use it, if you want to!!

I hope for some proper sleep soon as well! It's really wearing on me, and I hate the person I'm becoming on next to no sleep. I want to enjoy having the girls around, play with them, bake with them, enjoy their company and not be the quickly-to-anger hag I'm right now! There MUST be a good night's sleep in my immediate future!!! Sleep gods and goddesses of this world, remember The Baby!!

  7. oh my this name thing is making me a bit loo loo! Hope this one works... have been trying to comment... my own fault of being a bit of a nimrod in the computer dept. ANyhow a sleep hostage taker and a muddy princess all under one roof! whew! I love the concept of both of those!

    1. Love the muddy princess, but Calvin could definitely second-guess his sleep schedule ;-) Ă„ast night was especially bad, poor baby. Luckily, hubby facilitated me taking two naps today, and Calvin's got some homeopathic remedies to help him with the teething. Hope you have a great week!

  8. Puddle jumping princesses are awesome. I never thought I'd allow Zilla to do it....but how could I not? I even went out and bought rain boots so I could more effectively join her! Amazing what kids will do to you.
Good for your husband - having time to just play until your lips fall off is hard to come by. I'm glad when my Hub gets together with his guys to play. Sadly, they don't do it nearly often enough.
Hope you get some more sleep! Eventually the little terrorist will be a teenager (whole different kind of terrorist) and he'll sleep all the time, right?
I mean to say this over on Erin's blog, but I love coffee and tea equally, but in different ways. Yay for both!
    Have a great week!

    1. I love both coffee and tea as well. After the morning coffee, hubby and I started to make a big thermos of tea for the afternoon :-)

By no means did Muddy Princess just jump puddles; she was literally rolling in the mud pit they have at her kindergarten. She was so dirty hubby just left her in her mud suit and rain boots and took her home as is. She had to be on an old towel in the entrance way and strip out of her outer wear, just to keep some of the dirt out. But this task truly made me happy!!

I think I will remember this time and take it upon me to hide some alarm clocks in Calvin's room when he's a teenager and trying to sleep in! I'm mean :-)

Hope you have a wonderful week as well!

  9. I told my terrorist daddy would buy him a car if he would just sleep for me. He passed.

    1. Poor baby is teething, so it's not really his fault. I got him some homeopathic remedies and some pain meds for the night to help him sleep. Poor boy was crying so hard today! Hoping for a better night, as we have plans for tomorrow!!

  10. Does Aunt Dy need to come take care of that sweet boy? Terrorist, indeed! :)
There's nothing better than a messy princess! I have one in my preschool class. She wears a Frozen t-shirt and a bow and a boys Carhartt coat and sleeps with a hard, plastic Darth Vader doll.
I'm sure it was nice to spend a couple of days with your parents with your husband off losing his lips. It's nice to have someone else (especially grandparents) to absorb some of the endless child chatter for awhile!
With the girls back at school and routine restored, hopefully Calvin will get his sleep better regulated, in spite of the teething.
    Have a great week, Stephanie!

    1. Yes, Auntie Dy, we do indeed need you!! Poor baby is teething so bad; never had issues like that with the girls! I got him some homeopathic remedies and also gave him a dose of pain meds for the night. He was just crying hard today, and I couldn't really help him, poor boy!

As Violet's teachers put it: she's the perfect princess, all girlie, until you put her mud pants on her and send her outside, then she's ROLLING in the dirt :-) So excited for her enjoying the mud pit so much :-)

Having the grandparents help out for a few days was really, really awesome! The girls were busy chattering at Oma and Opa, and playing with their cousin. And mommy got some naps!

Wishing you a wonderful week as well, Dyanne!

  11. Sorry to hear you are having sleep issues - hope things settle there soon.

I have a great picture in my head of the puddle-jumping princess :) And as for coffee with your new neighbour - hope it goes well. I'd hate to start somewhere new - my brother and his wife just have - and it's good to know there are people like you reaching out to those who do. - Louise

    1. I know how difficult it can be starting out new, we've done it 3 times, and each time there were nice people who made us feel home quickly. Especially if one cannot speak the language very well, they get isolated very quickly. As a bi-lingual family ourselves, we're always happy to meet others going down the same route.

Baby's teething really, really badly, so my sleep issues will resolve as soon as his teething pain improves. I got him some homeopathic remedies and also pain meds for the night so he can rest. Poor baby was just so cranky all day long.

I hope you have a wonderful week, Louise!

  12. NUmber four.... It just blew my mind. I think more so because it was satirical. I was just drop jawed when I heard that.

I love the muddiest princess!!!! That is the best!

    1. Same here! Especially since in Germany, there's a really dispicable group named PEGIDA, who have taken it upon themselves to demonstrate against the increasing "Islamisation" of the "Christian West". It's disgusting; and attacks like that only give them more reasons to take to the streets while they hurt Muslims worldwide. There are fanatics, extremists, and fundamentalists in all religions, and they all disgust me. These attacks truly came out of the blue, for everyone.

I could kick myself for not taking a picture of how Violet was standing in front of the door, all caked with dirt, with her eyes just shining and her face glowing. Love this little girl so much!

      Have a wonderful week!!

    1. I'm glad that Calvin helped so well (with "helped", I mean he was sitting in his swing and supervising my work instead of insisting to be on my arm). :-) I hope you got everything down as well!

      Enjoy your week, Kate!
