Week In Review - Ten Things Of Thankful (33)

Ten Things of Thankful

Baking extravaganza for Lily's birthday is over, and I can tell you it's really difficult to start munching on the cakes and cookies filling this room with their delicious scent. So on to concentrating on the many things to be thankful for this week.

1. Even though it is quite overwhelming at the moment, I'm thankful to have a job that fulfills and challenges me every single day, with great colleagues and a supportive boss.

2. Getting too celebrate Lily's 6th birthday tomorrow. It feels like yesterday that we held our skinny, screaming bundle of Lily in our arms for the first time, having no idea how much joy and amazement she would bring in our lives. Happy Birthday, my little girl!

3. The smell of baked goods all over the house.

4. Sleeping in late, cuddling with hubby.

5. Violet for being a brave little girl when getting a surprise vaccination. Hubby took Lily to the doctor on Friday to have her cough checked out when the pediatrician noticed that Violet was still missing a follow-up vaccination. Richard said she didn't even flinch, what a big girl!

6. Dark chocolate pudding with whipped cream.

7. Nurses who are good at drawing my blood.

8. The potential this world has. Even though so many people are still barred in their own minds and worlds, it's been proven all over the world that it is possible to change that. People who would have never met stand side by side on the Majdan, protesting for their freedom. The Alhambra in Spain, for centuries a place where people of many different religions lived together in peace. If it's possible on the small scale, why not on the big scale? Why not respecting people for who they are? Why look at class differences, different skin colors, different religions, different nationalities instead of each other's hearts?  I know it is possible.

9. Snow in Germany! Yes, it has actually happened. By the time the girls got outside, there was more water than snow left, but when they came back in after an hour or so, they were so, so happy (and dripping wet).

10. Getting to watch the girl sitting side by side, playing with Violet's princess castle. So adorable!

  4. Happy birthday to Lily! (and you. Moms should get some happy birthdays, too. Those babies have changed us forever, kind of like a new birthday.)
Love a house full of baked good smells. And baked goods. :)
I am so glad you finally got some snow. I know you've all been missing it since we stole it with the vortex.
A nurse who is good at a blood draw is wonderful. My veins are not easy to draw from, and some nurses have been horrible. It hurts, Man!

    1. Thank you so much, Christine! We all had a fun birthday, with not as much sleep as I would have wanted :-) Surprisingly, all of the cakes turned out so well! The snow is gone now, but the girls got at least an afternoon of fun in some sort of white :-) I seem to have pretty small veins, and my body doesn't like to give away any blood. Usually, if a first try is not successful, it won't happen that day, but most nurses insist on trying anyways. Usually I'm right though! Have a great new week, Christine!

  5. Happy birthday to Lily!

#8 is wonderful. When people can focus more on their similarities and less on their differences, understanding occurs.

  6. Happy birthday to Lily and to all of you! I agree with Christine - moms should get the wishes, too. And dads. And everybody, really. I like sending my Mom flowers or a thank you card on my birthday.
Again, I'm reiterating Christine here - a nurse who is skilled at drawing blood is a blessing indeed, when you have to get it done regularly. Or even if you don't. It's awful to get a bad stick.
    Have a wonderful week!

    1. According to the nurse who couldn't get my blood, one of my veins is hardening up from frequent tapping. Feeling like a junkie now :-) This is so sweet of you, sending your mom flowers on your birthday. Maybe I should start doing that, too!! Thank you so much for the wishes to Lily, she's beaming more and more the more comments I read to her :-)

  8. Happy Birthday to Lily!! And I still hate when my girls need shots. I know they are needed and necessary, but still always worry for that moment and then for any reactions, too. Yay to Violet for being so brave though :)

    1. Luckily, none of the girls ever had any reactions to shots, besides the whining and fighting to avoid the shots. They didn't even go to the doctor for the shot, but because of Lily's cough, and someone must have noticed that she had that one missing; the must have had her thought on the animal crackers she always gets as a reward afterward :-) Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Janine, and have a great week!

  9. agree about: chocolate pudding and whipped cream and the (not) fun process of blood being taken.
(I have advice on one of these two… lol, no not the fun one! If I even have to encounter a procedure that is painful and/or creepy, I will simply ask for a towel. I take the towel and drape it over my face… (one of the few advantages of being an adult clark: to consider this to be a valid solution and to not care (anymore) what people think enough to actually request the towel.)
    lol
Happy BIrthday (er, pass that along)

    1. Maybe I should request a good glass of wine next time, just to support the blood building afterward :-) Or a chocolate pudding!

  10. What a happy list! I am so with you on the smell of baked goods in the house, and dark chocolate pudding - oh my! :-) Sleeping in with the hubby, something we get to cherish one morning a week, and it is priceless! I hope Lily had a wonderful birthday! And I love, love, LOVE #8 - I believe it's possible too, every time we set aside our pre-judgements and make a connection we are furthering the cause of world peace. Let it be!

    1. Thanks so much, Kate! There wasn't much snow actually, and it was already melting by the time they got out, it took their snow suits two days to dry :-) Have a great new week!

  12. Thank you so much for sharing the sweet little poem, Lizzi! Lily LOVED it :-) I know my sweet tooth and gave lots of the left-over cake to the guests to take home, and some more to share with some of my colleagues today :-) Have a great new week, my friend!

  13. See how far behind I am....playing catch up today! A very Happy (belated) Birthday to Lily! Six?What a big girl!
Sleeping in? What is that, exactly? I know my kids and husband do it but sleeping in to me is 6:30am! I do like the weekends though, when the kids sleep late and Jeff and I can hang out for a bit together with coffee in bed.
Sounds like a pretty good week and lots to be thankful for!
