Week In Review - Thankful

Ten Things of Thankful

I've decided that Lizzi's Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) is the perfect way to recap the week. While there are things I am thankful for every single day (like my family, my friends, my work, general health, etc.), there are special things happening every week - big and small - that are worth being thankful for.

Here are this week's 10:

1. Being greeted with a beautiful home-made gift (a syrup and jelly) from my coworker on Monday morning. I felt like it was my birthday even though it wasn't. And seeing her reaction about me (and another colleague of mine who got the same gift) being so excited about it. She was so truly happy that we loved it so much, which, in return, made me happy. No better way to start into a new week!

2. Not having a management position at work. Seeing all the crap my poor boss had to go through this week, and all the overtime she had to put in while not being appreciated the least made me really happy to (a) have her as my boss because she always appreciates our work, and (b) not having her job.

3. The beautiful weather. It's been perfect, simply perfect all week!

4. Having the kids I have and not the neighbor's kids.

5. Being able to have a lovely Friday evening celebrating my neighbor's birthday (not the neighbor from no. 4) and playing D&D afterward.

6. The wedding we were invited to attend. It was so beautiful witnessing a couple dedicating themselves to each other. It was such a wonderful ceremony and celebration afterward, I cannot say enough how thankful I am having been invited.

7. Lily. She surprises me over and over again. She and Violet have been flower girls at the wedding; and while Lily has been unsure whether she liked doing it or not, she did so well. Watching her walking in in front of the bride and groom, next to Violet, carrying the rings, I nearly cried. She had the most solemn look on her face, full of concentration and tenderness, which I will never forget. (yes, I'm tearing up all over again now). I'm so proud of her, and of course of little Violet as well, who did a wonderful job!

8. The beautiful moon I got to watch on our way home from the wedding.

9. The nap on the picnic blanket I got on the playground today while Lily played.

10. Sitting on the porch with a glass of blush wine, writing this.

Thank you so much for hosting once again, Lizzi!

  1. Ha ha, about #4... dare we ask?
Loved your list, all 10 things!! I want your #10! don't have a porch though, heck! I'm doing it after work today even if it is sitting on the ground by my front door!

    1. You may ask ;-) I spontanously added that one to the list after the neighbor's girl sang a VERY inappropriate song about her dad and continued yelling around for about 30 minutes at least one hour after my girls had gone to bed (she's somewhere between our girls, age-wise).

My porch is actually not a porch but a balcony, as we have a 2nd-floor apartment. But I loved sitting outside. It's awesome!! Hope this weather stays the way it is until at least mid-September, it's SO perfect!!

  2. What a totally positive outlook on your life's experiences! Prozac kicking in, is it? lol Not many people feel sympathy for their boss. That one almost made me wonder! Just joking. Seriously, your's is the most positive I've read in a while. Really refreshing!

    1. Thanks, Rich ;-) Actually, I've decided to give up any mood enhancers about 8 years ago, so I have to make sure there's enough positive stuff around to make me happy. I happen to be lucky enough to have a wonderful boss, so I do feel for her if she's getting a hard time.

  3. Stephanie, you play D&D? You and I must be friends. At once! AWESOME. You're about the only other blogger I've come across who does*

The wedding sounds gorgeous. I hope you got lots of photos of the glorious memories of your girls doing such a fabulous job.

YAY for presents - the syrup and jelly sounds like a brilliant thing to be given.

And WOW you're right about the not-being-in-management thing. I used to do it. I didn't like it. At all. I'm SO looking forward to being an employee/team pleb in autumn.

Thanks so much for joining us again :)

*well, who doesn't smell of BO and have a neckbeard, anyways!

    1. Yup, I play D&D, and Munchkin, and some other stuff. And not one of the guys in our round has a neck beard or BO ;-) And I'd LOVE to be friends with you!! Are you playing regularly at the moment?

The wedding was perfect. So many little details that were special to the couple, without being too stiff, enjoyed every minute!

To be honest, I think I'll be ok never to make it up to management level. It's so much more comfortable, no excessive overtime, not being yelled at by the higher-ups, etc.

    2. You play MUNCHKIN TOO? You totally rock. I so missed this or I would've added it in my email earlier - my love of Munchkin is how Husby first was interested in me XD

Thank goodness yours is a civillised group. Mine too ('cept I'm in it, and I'm not always that civil)

I'm so glad the wedding was good - love the pic on your next post.

And yep - being a team pleb is RIGHT where it's at :D

    3. Yup, I love Munchkin, and style myself having invented a master plan to win this game. I helped the hubby early in the game, let him take the treasure and only asked a favor later. In the very end, I was putting out my final move, everyone threw whatever they had against me; I looked at the hubby, reminded him of owing me a favor and demanded his support. It was GLORIOUS ;-)

Thanks a lot, Lizzi, I would have loved to post all the pics, it was such a great wedding!

  4. Oh dear to number four! Ouch! I love number seven and would have teared up writing it as well. I'll bet they looked adorable.

  5. sounds like a good week, retrospectively speaking. I agree, this bloghop, mostly by virtue of being 2 days (instead of the more traditional 'frantic 1 day'... has a certain 'feel' of a conversation that is kinda cool

    1. I totally agree, Clark. Also the following up, the no-pressure, and reading about all the things others are thankful for, that's just another reflection on one's own life..

    1. I was sitting at the porch while writing this, and the kids at the house across the empty lot were just acting out like little maniacs, being disrespectful, etc. And that at a time when at least the girl should have been in bed. So, I was really thankful that my girls were sleeping little angel at that moment ;-)

  7. It sounds like your girls were perfectly wonderful walking down the aisle. I cry at all weddings, so I can't imagine the sobbing I'd do if I would have seen my kids do this.

Your not having the neighbors' kids cracked me up!

I'm glad you are finding the thankful list to be a worthwhile activity. I enjoy going through and reading everyone's happy goings-on.

    1. Thank you so much, the girls were perfect. I really had to hold back, otherwise the hubby would have made fun of me mercilessly later...

If you had heard those kids next door, you'd know why I was really thankful that they weren't my kids ;-)

I totally agree. The first reflection is doing one's own list, then there comes reading all the other responses, love it!

  8. Awwww. Your list is so sweet. I too, never wanted to be a boss for the reasons you stated above. They might make more $$$, but I didn't think it was worth it at the company I worked for. Sounds like you might work at the same place. :-) I love looking at the moon too. And #4 was intriguing! Loved that! I found you through Finding Ninee and will try to find and like your fb page. Looking forward to reading more on your page.

    1. Thank you so much, Linda! Actually, my work is a very good company, but last Friday, I realized again the responsibility you have especially on the low-level management stage. She's being held responsible for all of our mistakes, and at that point, she was up to the neck in crap. Felt bad leaving her there, wonder when she actually made it home this Friday.

I truly appreciate you finding me, but you won't find my FB page, because there is none, no time for it ;-)

  10. #1 Sounds like a wonderful surprise. I'm glad everyone was very appreciative of the gift. It would have been fairly awkward if not... And very rarely do many people sympathize with their boss (usually their tormentor lol) so I found that fairly interesting.

I'll just trust the neighbors and not the best to be around.

Am I the only that chuckles thinking about your daughters being flower girls? Names and all. Glad they "nailed" it. I saw some wedding pics so I will be backtracking soon!

Also love you listed D&D lol I don't recall if you mentioned it before, but I know in response to one of my postings you mentioned me being a geek lol I used to DM/GM through the final years of high school and for a while after. Got too hard getting so many people together in one place with "grown up" schedules.

Hope you have a great week :)

    1. Well, I've received gifts in the past that I'd rather not have gotten... Remember certain outfits I got for Lily from my MIL *shudder*

Well, those neighbors are a family; the parents own the house and two of their children live in the house as well with their families. One of them used to rent our apartment right before us, and our landlords are still happy having gotten rid of them fairly easy.

You know, I actually never put their names in the equation, but if you insist, you should take into consideration as well that we actually live in Garden Way ;-)

Yes, we do play D&D, and sometimes it is indeed challenging matching the schedules of 5 parties. We aim at meeting every other Friday, but during summer vacation season it sometimes takes a month or so for us to meet again. But we take what we can get.

Thanks for stopping by again, Jak!

  11. I am so with you on that management thing! I've done it and have learned I am happier to be a worker bee.

And naps. I love naps. Why did I ever fight them? Sorry, mom!

    1. I'm sorry, too, should I ever not have taken a nap when I should have! I thought the older we get the less sleep we need? The person who claimed that obviously didn't have children ;-)
