Some Things Do Change

Finish the Sentence Friday

A Friday after a two-day work week somehow does not feel like a Friday, but it obviously is, because it's once again time to link up with Janine and Kate for Finish The Sentence Friday. Today's cue:

I used to love...

... going out and party. I would be looking forward to the Thursday nights in Bamberg. It was €1-shot night at the local Irish pub; two of my friends would buy ourselves one drink, and then drink the rest of the night on the soldiers' tabs and end the night dancing at the Green Goose. I got about 2 or 3 hours of sleep before going to class on Friday and was ready to hang out at my second living room, the Graffiti at Saturday night, playing pool and having fun with my friends, meeting new people or catching up with acquaintances we would meet by accident. Saturday night would either be the Graffiti again, it just never got old, or we would head out and dance the night away in one of the clubs. I could not have imagined my life any different, until it started to get old. I did not feel like clubbing any more or get hammered.

Nowadays, I sometimes feel old when I need at least 8 hours of sleep to function. I feel old when much older colleagues tell me about partying on the weekends. But I am much happier. I love my life of spending weekends on the couch, or hanging out with friends. Having a family to come home to instead of partying my loneliness away. I have found myself, and I have found love.

  1. Oh totally this was my life about 15 years ago. Thursday night was always college night and would start the weekend off for me. 1. Thanks a lot for hosting, Janine! I am actually glad that I had the opportunity to get the party bug out when I was young. Somehow, there's nothing more pathetic than people beyond 40 still trying to fit in with the young crowd..

  2. It's amazing how old you can feel when you get into a routine. I love our routine and wouldn't trade that for all the partying in the world. :)

    1. I wouldn't either, Jen! Sometimes I think that it would be fun to get the old crew together and have one of those infamous Thursday parties, but then again, I am not the person from back then, when I didn't really care what people thought and as a poor college student would flirt shamelessly for a drink (even though nothing more). Today, I couldn't do that any more. I actually want to be taken serious as an adult, as a professional, as a wife and mother, I'm not a college student any more!

  4. Yes yes yes!! I, too, used to love the party too much too. It wasn't too much then (maybe) but it would be WAY too much now. Awesome way to finish the sentence!!!

    1. Thanks a lot, K! I think I have decided for myself that it's better to keep the fond memories of the fun I had back then instead of trying to re-live it and potentially fail miserably, especially since I'm in such a different personal situation now. Nowadays, "going out Friday nigh" means meeting friends for dinner at a beer garden while watching the kids play and be back before 9 pm for bedtime ;-)

  5. This was me in 2005!! I sometimes question the energy I had to literally dance all night, from 11 am to 4 am. But then again, I have the energy now to go on a few hours sleep because of a newborn :) So I guess I'm still that same spring chicken lol

    1. That is definitely a valid point, Christina! Thank you so much for stopping by! If I was able to sleep in until past noon and then have no obligation until 9pm when it's time to get ready for the next party, I think I could still do that. Instead it's getting up at 6:30 and cater to the girls for the rest of the day; love my life now ;-)
