Our 3-year old, Violet, is a little Miss Scaredy-Pants. Especially, she is afraid of large dogs, or any animal that approaches her proactively instead of waiting until she has decided to approach them. She has received some training on that, partly from our neighbors very active but tiny Beavers (Yorkie mix), partly from my friend's Golden Retriever/Rottweiler mix, who is probably the calmest dog I've ever seen.
Thanks to having had her exposure to dogs, I was able to shoot this picture of her and Lily with my uncle's labrador; and yes, I am excited about it!

I have a cousin who has a kid who's 4 and ever since a certain incident with a dog she's been terrified of dogs. Terrified to the point when she sees any kind of dog big or small she will literally crawl up her parents to get away from it. but it doesnt help the fact that her parents agg it on too. As soon as they see a dog they snatch the kid up and all. Instead of saying hunny...not all dogs will hurt you. Like for instance my mom invited her over one day and her mom made sure to say "Now remember she has a dog at her house." Like our dog would eat her up or something. You just dont do that too the child. Even her granddaddy got a dog to try and see if he could help make things better. No luck. The mom makes it worse and it's quite sad.
ReplyDeleteRichard and I are both in favor of helping her overcome her fear. We try to get her into controlled situations with dogs we know well to help her get accustomed. I'm so excited that she's not afraid of Balu, my friend's dog, any more! Fears hold us back, and if she has one deep-set fear, others may add.
DeleteBe sure to stop by and give your input on these 2 post. I'd greatly appreciate it. Would your input on this http://pinkowl07.blogspot.com/2013/05/nerves-anyone-good-at-advice.html http://pinkowl07.blogspot.com/2013/05/master-debater.html
ReplyDeleteThat IS exciting!! I am a huge dog lover but have friends that aren't, so anytime someone starts working towards getting over the fear is a happy moment to me. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christina! We're not really dog-people but love cats. But still, we don't want her to panic if she sees a dog, and I was really excited watching her with that lab yesterday; my cousin did a great job encouraging Violet to pet the dog.
DeleteSo cute!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jen!
